Jeroen van den Hoven is full professor of Ethics and Technology at Delft University of Technology and editor in chief of Ethics and Information Technology. He was the founding scientific director of 3TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology (2007-2013). In 2009, he won the World Technology Award for Ethics as well as the IFIP prize for ICT and Society for his work in Ethics and ICT. Jeroen van den Hoven was founder, and until 2016 Programme Chair, of the Dutch Research Council on Responsible Innovation. He is also member of the TU Delft Blockchain Lab. His research themes are Ethics of Technology, Computer Ethics, Value Sensitive Design, Responsible Innovation and Privacy.

Jacqueline Broerse is professor of innovation and communication in the life sciences (with focus on diversity and social inclusion) and Director of the Athena Institute, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a master degree in biomedical sciences with specialization ‘policy analysis’ (cum laude, 1988). She obtained her PhD degree on the development of an approach to responsible research and innovation (RRI) in order to include small-scale farmers in research agenda setting processes on agricultural biotechnology. Her current research is focused on (1) methodology development for RRI and in particular facilitating public engagement, and (2) management and evaluation of systemic change processes, in order to contribute to more equitable and inclusive innovation processes, particularly in the field of health and sustainable development. She participates in various EU projects on RRI: VOICES, SYNENERGENE and RRI Tools.

Dr. Klaus Jacob is research director of the Environmental Policy Research Centre and has been a senior research fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin since 1995. He is head of the research group Policy Assessment which works in the fields of impact assessment, evidence-based policy making, strategies in environmental and sustainability policy, ecological modernization as well as innovation and lead markets. The work of his research group combines both, basic research and applied policy consultancy for national and international clients. He was member of an expert group of the European Commission to develop options for strengthening Responsible Research and Innovation in European research policies. Klaus Jacob is chair of the steering committee of the Berlin Conferences series on the Human Dimension of Global Environmental Change and president of the executive board of The Integrated Assessment Society (TIAS).

Richard Owen is a Professor of Science and Innovation Governance at the University of Exeter Business School, where he has held the Chair in Responsible Innovation since 2010.  He led the development of a framework for responsible research and innovation, working closely with the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to develop their RRI policy in 2014.  He is currently working on an EU project (RRI Practice) investigating the translation of RRI into practice in research performing and funding organisations across Europe. He researches RRI in a broad set of contexts, from financial innovation to climate engineering and increasingly in the context of the so called developing world.

May Thorseth holds a professorship position at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Trondheim. She is director of NTNU’s Programme for Applied Ethics, member of the management group of NTNU Sustainability (area Ethical Perspectives) and vice-chairman of NTNU’s Research ethical committee. Her areas of interest include: ethics and political philosophy; applied ethics, research ethics; environmental ethics; information- and communication ethics; multicultural conflicts; democracy and fundamentalism. Thorseth is involved in several RRI-activities as member of NTNU sustainability, such as Horizon 2020 applications and international conferences in collaboration with international partners. She has a particular focus on RRI as part of a broad concept of research ethics.

Adriana Valente is Research Director at The National Research Council of Italy, Institute of Researches on Population and Social Policies in Rome (CNR-IRPPS) and Head of the CNR Research Team “Social Studies of Science, Education Communication”. She has been professor in several universities. Among recent EU project, she is Coordinator of the Erasmus+ DESCI (Developing and Evaluating Skills for Creativity and Innovation); she is the WP4 leader of REPOPA (Research into Policy to enhance physical-activity); she has participated in the Horizon2020 project SiS-RRI, leading the preparation of two chapters on “Science Education” and “Public Engagement” of the stocktaking paper “The contribution of the European Commission to Responsible Research and Innovation. A review of the Science and Society (FP6) and Science in Society (FP7) Programmes.”
